Looking Younger: Consider Face Lift Surgery

Getting a face lift can't drastically change the way you look but it can help give you a more youthful appearance. Time is something that can't be turned back and unfortunately the process of aging can't be stopped either. Just because we can't completely stop the process of aging does not mean that we can do something to slow it down in its tracks. Sometimes it takes more than adapting a healthy lifestyle and being a very health conscious person. Sometimes the use of medicine is needed to help turn back the clock.

Many people who get choose to have the lift surgery are in the forty to sixty age range. They are not the only ones who receive the surgery but they make up the largest age group who make it a very popular procedure. If you are thinking about using a face lift to give you back some time in your appearance, it is best for you to consult with a plastic surgeon first, so that they can go over everything about the surgery and also whether or not your expectations are realistic or not.

Saline or Silicone For Your Breast Augmentation?

When it comes to breast augmentation, the two major choices you have are between saline and silicone implants. Depending on what look you're going for, you and your plastic surgeon can discuss which option is right for you. To have an informed discussion with your doctor, it is helpful to understand a few facts about each of these different options so that you can work together at designing a customized surgical plan that will give you the best results possible.

Silicone

Silicone breast implants have been around the longest. These are pre-made implants that are surgically placed into your chest to augment the size of your breasts. You may think that these are a one-size-fits-all solution, but there are many different shapes and sizes to choose from. When planning your surgery, these implants will require certain incisions and placement options. As an implant, silicone does last for a long time but you may need to look into revision surgery if calcification forms around the implant after 5-10 years. By choosing a board certified plastic surgeon, especially one that specializes in breast augmentation, you will have a better chance at having them last longer.

Breast Augmentation: How To Determine The Best Size For You

If you are planning to get breast augmentation in order to get a bigger chest, you need to think about the size you will go for. This may seem like one of the simplest decisions related to this surgery, but it is a major choice to make. Unlike the incision type or placement, or the type of implant, the size of the breasts will be obvious to everyone. This is why you need to think about this decision.

You can get an idea of the best look for you by checking out a website or computer program that lets you upload a picture of yourself. The next step is to choose each cup size since each one will be shown on your body within the picture, allowing you to get an idea of how it would look. Usually you can immediately see when one option is too large for your frame, or perhaps not enough of a change. Additionally, you can usually save each picture so that you can print each out and compare it to the others. Plus, you can share the pictures with people to get their advice on which sizes look best.

Positional Plagiocephaly and Infant Plastic Surgery

In a child's early months, the skull is soft and changes shape easily. Often a baby will get comfortable sleeping in a certain position every night, resulting in the flattening of a portion of his head. This was made more prevalent by the "back to sleep" campaign, which recommends that a newborn be laid on its back when it sleeps. This has resulted in fewer babies dying from SIDS, but it has also resulted in more cases of babies with positional plagiocephaly.

Most diagnoses of plagiocephaly however, are not permanent because the infant's head is elastic until about 18 months, and usually rounds out when encouraged to sleep in different positions. Unfortunately though, some infants don't cooperate and still sleep on the flattened side and do develop a more severe flattened skull which results in the head shifting forward and occurs in about 1 in 300 babies. Though positional plagiocephaly does not usually hinder the development of the brain, it is important to recognize the problem early to avoid plastic surgery. Usually just repositioning the head when the baby is sleeping works to solve the problem.

Plastic Surgery - Finding the Right Surgeon

When it comes to something as life-altering as plastic surgery, having the right medical professional to perform the procedure is extremely important. Unfortunately, looking up plastic surgeons in the phonebook may provide you with a long list of names and numbers to go through. There are many other ways to find a competent surgeon, and many things you should consider about each doctor you speak with.

Rather than calling every number in the Yellow Pages, you can start your search by asking friends and family. If you know someone who has had the type of plastic surgery you are considering, he or she can recommend the doctor who did the work. You can also ask about that person's experience with the surgeon. Ask the person how satisfied he or she was with the results of the procedure you are considering. You can also seek a referral from your regular family doctor, but he or she may not know much about the surgeon's actual work. If you ask your doctor, make sure you ask about any feedback he or she has received from other patients who visited the plastic surgeon. Another source of information is the internet. Some sites will simply list every board-certified surgeon in your area, but other sites actually provide patient reviews and commentary about each surgeon.

Plastic Surgery Pros and Cons For Your Procedure

Every year, more and more people are electing to have some type of plastic surgery. There are many different procedures that you can get to improve virtually any part of your body. Whatever you feel insecure about, you can boost your self-confidence through the proper surgical procedure. However, just as there are obvious benefits to this type of surgery, there are also drawbacks to consider. Before you decide to go under the knife, you should carefully consider both the pros and cons of plastic surgery.

Many people would say that the biggest benefit of plastic surgery is improved physical appearance and self-esteem. If you are somewhat shy due to insecurities about your body, the proper procedure can help you become more outgoing and confident. You may feel better about meeting new people, more relaxed about posing for pictures, and more secure about your physical appearance. Another benefit is that you can change your appearance far more quickly with some procedures, such as liposuction and tummy tucks, than you would be able to through any diet and exercise regimen. Losing weight for a special event can be accomplished within just a few weeks or months of recovery time.

Common Plastic Surgery Procedures And Their Scientific Names

While most people have heard of several common plastic surgery procedures, they may not know just what the doctor does during each procedure. As these types of surgery continue to become more popular each year, there is also an increase in the number of people looking to learn more about each option. If you are considering a certain type of cosmetic surgery, it may help you to become educated about it before you go see a surgeon. Here are some of the most common procedures to consider:

- Liposuction: During this procedure, fat is removed using a tube that is inserted under the skin. This type of fat removal is most commonly performed on a person's abdomen, buttocks, upper legs and hips, and upper arms. The end result after liposuction is typically a slimmer or curvier appearance. Recovery from this procedure usually takes only a couple weeks.

Get Answers From Your Plastic Surgeon Before The Procedure

A plastic surgeon must be someone that you trust completely, because that person will take your appearance and your health in his or her hands when performing your procedure. Because of this, it is important to make sure you have asked the right questions before you choose the right one.

Because there are so many things involved in cosmetic surgery, from choosing a doctor to ensuring proper preparation to having the work done and ultimately recovering, you may feel overwhelmed about all the various questions you have. This is certainly normal for some individuals, especially those who are having work done for the first time, and if this is you then it is important to know you are not alone.

Plastic Surgeon: Learn About 3 Important Appointments

If you plan to have cosmetic surgery, you will likely need to have at least three separate appointments with the plastic surgeon you choose. This is why you need to make sure you pick someone who you are not only comfortable with, but are also fairly close to so you do not have to drive for hours when you need to meet up. Learn about the three main appointments you will have with your doctor.

The first appointment is usually called the initial consultation. This is often free, and allows you to meet the doctor before committing to becoming his patient. You can schedule consultations with a few doctors if you wish, but take the time during each one to consider whether you are comfortable there. You will need to ask any questions you have about the surgery and the office, and your doctor will let you know anything else of importance. You will be told what you need to do to prepare for surgery, and you may also be required to get a check-up from your regular physician before you can schedule the procedure. For this reason, you may have to attend a few more visits after the initial meeting, so plan for that possibility.
